2020 has been a year of change. A global pandemic that’s closed schools and workplaces and exacerbated health and financial inequities. Uprisings in the streets demanding justice and an end to brutality against Black people.
Many of us have felt helpless, unsure how we can contribute. But what if 2020 is the year you make an impact, using your expertise and your platform?
With so much going on in the world right now, it’s easy to just stick to what we know. But what if you broke out of your comfort zone to create lasting change?
Welcome to Women’s Money Week 2020.
We, as writers, bloggers, journalists, and podcasters, can inspire others (and ourselves) to think about the impacts we can make and take action.
August 18th, 2020 is the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving Women in the US the right to vote.
On August 17th, we’ll kick off Women’s Money Week 2020 to honor that anniversary and bring attention to important issues surrounding women and money today.
Our theme? Inspire Action.
The 19th Amendment only guaranteed white women the right to vote. Black women were still discriminated against in many states and weren’t guaranteed equal access to voting until the Voting Rights Act passed in 1965.
And lasting systemic, structural racism means women of color earn less money than white women, are underrepresented in high-paying jobs, and are overrepresented in the low-wage workforce.
So, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment and the work that still needs to be done, Women’s Money Week 2020 will focus on Inspiring Action.
Together, We’ll Inspire Action
How can we be catalysts for change?
If we don’t challenge ourselves, we don’t change. If we don’t inspire others to think about and interact with the world differently, they won’t change as individuals, and we will not make progress as a society.
Together we can impact and influence millions of people. And those people will influence millions of other people. And together, we can inspire massive action.
We will send ideas and questions to consider as you think about these topics in the coming days and weeks, but in the meantime, the more specific steps about how to get involved are below.
Here’s How it Works
Women’s Money Week was launched in 2012 to bring women together to focus on money-related issues in our lives. As in past years, here is how the week will work:
Who: Any Writer/Author/Blogger/Journalist/Podcaster
We invite all women and nonbinary people to participate. If you already have a platform on which you write/publish, use that. If you need one, please email me and we will try to connect you to a publishing platform. We will also have opportunities to publish content on WomensMoney.com. (We will pay a per-article rate. Please email me at Elizabeth [at] womens money [.] com if you are interested).
What: Women’s Money Week 2020 – A Week Devoted to Inspiring Change
Where women and nonbinary bloggers, journalists, podcasters and anyone with a platform band together and create content about that day’s topic for their audience.
Where: Your Media Platform
Women’s Money will also do a daily roundup and link to all content, and will promote the content on our social media platforms throughout the day. Participants are also encouraged (but not required) to read and promote content of other participants.
When: Monday August 17th- Friday August 21st, 2020
The topics for each day are as follows:
Monday: Entrepreneurship & Small Business
Wednesday: Charitable Giving
Thursday: Racial Justice & Equity
Friday: Climate Change
Why: Use Your Platform to Make an Impact
This is a chance to join together with hundreds of other writers to have a massive impact. If we are all talking and writing about the same topics for a week, and encouraging our audience to do the same, together, this can lead to significant change.
How: Sign up here to get additional details.
But in short, all you need to do is choose at least one day and topic on which to write. We will include you in our daily roundup and link to your content. We will also promote content on our social media accounts. We encourage you to also promote other content during the week.
Please sign up here to get more information about participating in the week. Once you sign up we will include you on our list of participants.
Thank you for your interest in Women’s Money Week! Together, we can inspire change.
